New CORDIS Article Highlights BIO4Africa’s Impact on Circular Bio-Based Solutions in Rural Africa
We are pleased to share that BIO4Africa’s work is featured in a new article on the CORDIS – EU research results platform, showcasing how the project has helped turn agricultural waste into revenue across Africa.
The article, “Turning agricultural waste into revenue across Africa”, highlights the project’s success in developing and testing climate-resilient, small-scale bio-based technologies that convert agricultural residues into value-added products. These technologies, including green biorefineries, pyrolysis, hydrothermal carbonisation, briquetting and pelletising, have been piloted with more than 300 farms and farmers’ groups in Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal and Uganda, demonstrating real potential to improve farm incomes, environmental sustainability and circular value chains in rural communities.

The article also notes BIO4Africa’s creation of an open online catalogue of 80+ technologies suitable for rural African contexts, as well as an open-access feedstock database that supports evidence-based bioeconomy deployment across the pilot countries.
